Aconitum fischeri, commonly called Monkshood. Each individual flower is shaped like a little helmet or hood, thus the common name Monkshood. They are wonderful old-fashioned perennials, perfectly suited for border plantings.
Clear blue flowers that are relatively dwarf compared to others. The stems are strong with beautiful cut-leaf foliage and do not require staking. Flowers bloom in late summer to early fall, when your garden may be in need of a color boost.
Flowers attract bees and plants are deer resistant. Highly resistant to diseases and pests, partially because they are very poisonous. USE CAUTION when handling this plant and wear gloves.
Will take sun if soil is consistently moist. The soil should also be amended with generous amounts of compost and peat moss to give it a slight acidity. Height 18-24" Spread 12-18", Zones 3-7.
