Prunus maritima (Beach Plum)
Prunus maritima, commonly known as Beach Plum, is a hardy, native shrub ideal for coastal gardens and sandy soils. In late spring, it produces delicate white blossoms that attract pollinators, followed by small, flavorful purple plums in late summer. These fruits are perfect for fresh eating, preserves, and jams. Beach Plum is salt-tolerant, drought-resistant, and forms a dense, rounded habit, making it excellent for hedges, wildlife habitat, or naturalistic landscapes.
