Sorbus decora (Showy Mountain Ash)
A charming ornamental tree native to Maine and much of North America, the Showy Mountain Ash offers four seasons of beauty in a compact, landscape-friendly size. In spring, clusters of bright white flowers appear above handsome, fern-like foliage. By late summer, these give way to abundant clusters of vivid red berries that persist into fall and attract birds.
This hardy, slow-growing species is the most cold-tolerant of the mountain ashes and is noted for its disease resistance. Its dark green foliage transitions to rich red tones in autumn, adding another layer of seasonal interest.
