Ajuga reptans
(Bugleweed)
A vigorous, mat-forming groundcover that quickly spreads to create a lush carpet of shiny, dark green leaves. In mid to late spring (May–June), dense spikes of blue-violet flowers rise above the foliage, producing a striking display. Cultivars offer a range of colorful and variegated leaf forms. Ideal for covering large, shady areas where grass won’t grow, or for use on slopes, under trees, and around shrubs. Dense foliage naturally suppresses weeds but is not tolerant of heavy foot traffic.
