Amelanchier alnifolia (Serviceberry, Shadbush)
A versatile native shrub offering beautiful interest through every season. In mid-spring, fragrant white flowers appear along the branches just before the foliage emerges, creating a soft, elegant display. By early summer, the blooms give way to sweet blue berries that are enjoyed by birds and can also be harvested for fresh eating, baking, or jams.
Its upright habit makes it an excellent choice for naturalized plantings, mixed borders, or edible landscapes. In autumn, the foliage turns brilliant shades of orange and red, providing outstanding seasonal color.
Naturally found growing as an understory plant, this Serviceberry adapts well to both full sun and part shade and supports pollinators, butterflies, and birds.
