Amelanchier × grandiflora ‘Autumn Brilliance’ (Serviceberry / Shadbush)
A versatile, small deciduous tree or tall shrub, ‘Autumn Brilliance’ is a hybrid between North American serviceberries A. arborea and A. laevis. It features multi-season interest with clusters of white flowers in April, followed by edible, blueberry-like fruits in June that are perfect for jams, jellies, or pies.
Glossy, finely-toothed leaves emerge bronze in spring, mature to dark green through summer, and transform to brilliant red and orange hues in fall. Adaptable to a wide range of soils, it prefers moist, well-drained loams and can be grown in full sun to part shade. Root suckers may produce a shrubby habit if left in place.
