Amsonia hubrichtii
(Narrow Leaf Blue Star)
A southern native with very narrow, needle-like leaves that line the stems like bottle brushes, soft as silk to the touch. In late spring through early summer, clusters of small, light blue, star-shaped flowers (2–3" wide) bloom above a short mound of ferny foliage. After flowering, the plant quickly grows to about 3 feet tall. In fall, the entire plant transforms into a stunning golden yellow, providing an excellent backdrop for fall-blooming perennials such as sedums and garden mums.
Height: 24–36"
Zone: 5–9
Features: Star-shaped light blue flowers, ferny foliage, soft needle-like leaves, striking golden yellow fall color, excellent for borders and mixed perennial plantings
