Andropogon gerardii ‘Holy Smoke’ (Big Bluestem, Ornamental Grass)

Andropogon gerardii ‘Holy Smoke’
(Big Bluestem)

‘Holy Smoke’ adds strong vertical structure and changing foliage color to sunny gardens. Silvery leaves are brushed with smoky purple and red tones through much of the growing season, becoming richer shades of purple and pink as fall approaches. It is cultivar of a native plant (Andropogon gerardii)) which is native to most of the central and eastern U.S.

Its tall, upright habit makes it especially useful toward the back of perennial borders, in prairie-style plantings, native gardens, and mass plantings. Strong, erect flower stems help maintain a clean, architectural look through the season.
