Asclepias syriaca
(Common Milkweed)

Common Milkweed is a North American native perennial recognized for its rounded clusters of fragrant, pinkish-purple flowers. The blooms appear in summer above broad green foliage and provide nectar for bees, butterflies, and other beneficial pollinators.

Its leaves are an essential food source for Monarch butterfly caterpillars, making this species a valuable addition to pollinator gardens, meadows, and naturalized plantings. Common Milkweed spreads through underground rhizomes, so it is best planted where it has room to form a colony.
