Asclepias tuberosa
(Butterfly Weed)
A bright, sun-loving native perennial with clusters of vivid orange flowers from early to midsummer. The blooms sit above sturdy green stems and add a bold splash of color to perennial borders, meadow plantings, and pollinator gardens.
Butterfly Weed is especially valuable for wildlife, serving as a host plant for Monarch caterpillars while also attracting bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. Decorative seed pods extend the season of interest into fall. Once established, it handles dry conditions well and performs best in sunny sites with well-drained soil.
