Astilbe japonica ‘Montgomery’
‘Montgomery’ brings rich color and strong contrast to shaded gardens with large, dense magenta-red flower plumes held on dark red stems. The glossy foliage emerges bronze-red in spring before maturing to green, giving the plant added interest before flowering begins.
Its upright habit works well through the front or middle of shaded borders, woodland gardens, and mixed perennial plantings. It pairs especially well with Brunnera, Ligularia, Lobelia, Hosta, and other moisture-loving plants, while the flowers also attract pollinators and make good cut stems.
