New Jersey Tea is a compact native shrub with deep green foliage and a dense, spreading habit. In late spring, clusters of small, fragrant white flowers appear above the foliage, attracting butterflies, hummingbirds, and other pollinators.

Its leaves were used as a tea substitute during the Revolutionary War, giving this native plant an interesting place in American history. Yellow-tinged twigs provide subtle winter interest after the leaves have fallen.

Drought tolerant once established, New Jersey Tea grows best in sunny, well-drained locations. Its compact size makes it a good choice for borders, native plantings, pollinator gardens, and dry or challenging landscape areas.
