Clethra alnifolia ‘Anne Bidwell’
A beautiful late-blooming selection of summersweet, ‘Anne Bidwell’ flowers up to two weeks later than many other varieties, extending the season of color and fragrance in the garden. Large white flower spikes appear in mid to late summer, releasing a light, sweet fragrance above lustrous dark green foliage.
As the season progresses, the leaves turn a bright yellow in autumn, while the seed heads provide subtle interest into fall and winter. Its upright, rounded habit makes it an excellent choice for borders, foundation plantings, naturalized areas, and rain gardens.
This adaptable native shrub grows well in average to wet soils and will even tolerate occasional standing water. It performs best in acidic soil and is also tolerant of environmental salt and urban conditions.
