Dodecatheon meadia
(Shooting Star)
A charming North American native wildflower with unusual rose-pink to lavender blooms. The petals sweep backward around a pointed yellow-and-dark center, creating the distinctive look that gives Shooting Star its name. Flowers rise above a low rosette of fresh green foliage in late spring.
This woodland perennial is a lovely choice for native gardens, shaded borders, and naturalized plantings. It prefers moist, humus-rich soil and dappled shade. After flowering, the foliage naturally dies back as the plant goes dormant for summer, returning again the following spring.
