‘Dawyck Purple’ is a narrow, upright European beech valued for its deep purple foliage and strong vertical form. Its columnar habit makes it a useful choice for adding height and structure without taking up as much horizontal space as a typical beech. Leaves emerge as a burgundy-red in spring, turning deep dark purple through summer, and finishing with bronze-amber tones in fall.

This selection originated in Scotland as a chance seedling involving the green-leaved ‘Dawyck’ Columnar Beech and a purple-leaved form. The result combines the upright habit of ‘Dawyck’ with rich purple foliage that provides color throughout the growing season.
