A rich McEwen introduction from 1981, ‘Teal Velvet’ features large 5½-inch flaring flowers in reddish purple. The blooms are noted for their handsome size, deep color, and velvety texture, giving this variety a bold presence early in the iris season.

This tetraploid variety blooms very early into midseason. While stems typically have no branch and 2 buds, the plant sends up successive stalks for continued bloom. Its upright, grass-like foliage adds texture and structure after flowering.
