‘Purple Flame’ begins its display in March, when vivid eggplant-purple foliage emerges in flame-like shoots. As the foliage matures, blue-violet flowers appear on dark stems, each accented by a golden signal on the falls.

Introduced by Mt. Cuba Center in 2020, this native iris brings early-season foliage color and abundant flowers to moist or wet garden areas. It is well suited for rain gardens, pond edges, bog gardens, wet meadows, and other locations where many plants struggle.
