(Tulip Tree, Tulip Poplar, Yellow Poplar) This elegant, eye-catching deciduous tree holds its own in the largest yards. The Tulip Tree, or yellow poplar tree, is named after its sunshine yellow, tulip-shaped flowers that open in late spring. A fast-growing shade tree, it has a pyramidal to conical habit and variegated bright green leaves. Its foliage turns a glowing yellow in the fall. Native to eastern North America, the Tulip Tree is the state tree of Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee. 50-80'. Z4-9.
