Mukdenia rossii

Mukdenia is a compact, shade-loving perennial valued for its distinctive fan-shaped foliage and changing seasonal color. Rounded, palmate, deeply lobed and toothed leaves emerge coppery bronze in spring before maturing to medium to dark green. By late summer, reddish tones begin creeping inward from the leaf edges, providing attractive fall color.

Its spreading habit makes it useful as a groundcover when planted in groups, while its colorful foliage works well along woodland edges, shaded borders, and the front of garden beds. It grows best with afternoon shade in moist, fertile, well-drained soil. In cooler climates, it can tolerate more sun when consistent moisture is available.
