Sanguinaria canadensis                                                                                                  (Bloodroot) Named for the reddish sap in its stems and roots; toxic to herbivores. Best grown in moist, humusy, well-drained soil. Excellent for naturalizing in woodland areas; most attractive in masses. Lovely pure white flowers emitting a wonderful fragrance in late winter-early spring. Up to 10", Z3-8.
