Sorbaria sorbifolia First Editions® ‘Matcha Ball’® – Ash Leaf Spirea
A charming natural sphere of finely textured, fern-like foliage, ‘Matcha Ball’® brings refreshing chartreuse-green color and crisp shape to the landscape. In very early spring, new growth emerges with warm tones of red to orange-peach before maturing to its signature soft green—much like the soothing hue of matcha tea that inspired its name. Unlike traditional Sorbaria, this selection maintains a tight, rounded habit, blooms only lightly, and does not sucker, making it an excellent choice for low-maintenance gardens and small spaces.
As the season winds down, the foliage shifts to bright yellow, adding a final splash of color to the fall landscape. Thriving in moist, well-drained soils and tolerant of full sun to light shade, this compact shrub is both reliable and visually unique.
