Thermopsis villosa (Aka: T. caroliniana)
Thermopsis villosa features tall, dense spikes of sulfur-yellow to cream/tan, sweet pea–like flowers in late spring to early summer, creating a dramatic vertical accent in the garden. Its velvety, gray-green trifoliate foliage adds texture and contrast, while the flowers serve as a host for butterfly larvae, supporting garden wildlife.
Native to southwestern North Carolina, eastern Tennessee, and northern Georgia. This hardy perennial thrives in full sun with well-drained soil and reaches 3–5' tall, making it ideal for back borders, naturalized areas, or pollinator-friendly plantings.
