Vernonia noveboracensis – New York Ironweed
Bring bold height and rich late-season color to naturalistic gardens with this tall native Ironweed. Sturdy upright stems rise above broad, serrated green foliage and are topped with clusters of deep royal-purple flowers from late summer into fall.
New York Ironweed is especially well suited to meadows, rain gardens, woodland edges, and the back of perennial borders. Its substantial height adds strong vertical structure, while the flowers provide an important late-season nectar source for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators.
Ironweed is valued for its adaptability, easy care, and ability to handle moist soils. It performs well in full sun to part shade and is generally left alone by deer.
