Vinca minor                                                                                                                                (Creeping myrtle, Periwinkle) This evergreen perennial has a low sprawling habit. The stems root at their joints as they creep along the ground and spread rapidly, becoming a lovely flowering ground cover. Tubular, lavender blue, phlox-like flowers appear in the leaf axils in spring and continue to flower intermittently throughout summer into fall. Vinca are often planted beneath mature trees; they are drought-tolerant and won't compete with tree roots for moisture. Shade-loving Vinca provides coverage for troublesome bare spots with a spring floral display. Because of their ability to root and spread, they can help hold soil in place, making this a great choice for slopes. Plant it in sun or shade in well-draining soil.  3-6" tall with trailing vines up to 18" long, Z4-9.
